Motomura: Best Gyukatsu in Osaka

Don’t be deceived by the simplicity of the menu. The meat and flavors are definitely far from basic.

They only have 1 dish: Gyukatsu

Don’t be deceived by the menu’s simplicity. The meat and flavors are far from basic.

Gyukatsu Motomora is conveniently located on the side streets of the Shinsaibashi stretch. With its growing popularity, queueing takes an hour or even more during peak lunch and dinner slots. The long line takes you to a small dining bar in the basement, with an open kitchen and less than 12 seating capacity.

Your Gyukatsu is prepared, sliced, and assembled right before you. These breaded steak cuts are served medium rare. You may choose to cook it further through the stone plate on the table.

A few seconds of side searing would give you a nice toast on the outside and tender meat on the inside. We tried it without searing, a 3-second sear, and a well-done version. Surprisingly, all three variations are still wonderfully delicious, tender, and juicy. Our best recommendation would be 3-5 seconds before you put it in your mouth.

These Gyukatsu also come in sets of rice (with 1 free refill), a soup, a set of sides, and sauces. The sauces pair perfectly with the meat, but personally, just a pinch of salt is more than enough.

This is probably one of the most affordable melt-in-your-mouth steaks in the Namba area. So if you are thinking twice about lining up, our experience is proof that it is so damn worth it.

This is definitely one of the highlights of our Osaka trip. Find Gyukatsu Motomura on Google Maps.
